SpecStory for Teams
Every open thread of work, in one live view
Meet Workthreads — SpecStory's live work-tracking layer. See what's actually in flight across your team's agents, repos, and people, and jump straight back in. Not a ticket board you maintain — a live read, derived from real agent activity.
Meet the workthread.
A workthread is a unit of intent-driven work, reconstructed from one or more agent sessions — spanning agents, repos, and time. Workthreads draw every open session together with the people and projects behind it, derive each one's state automatically, and keep it live — so you always know what's in flight and what needs you.

One primitive, three altitudes.
The same workthread composes up from one developer to the whole team — and across people when work changes hands.
Me
What's still open across all of my agents and repos?
Your personal radar of unfinished work — what needs verification, what got blocked, what you switched away from and never closed.
My team
What's in flight across every developer?
A live roll-up for a lead or CEO: every open thread across the team, with the issues that need unblocking surfaced first.
Handoff
Pick up a teammate's thread — or pass one cleanly.
Every workthread is resumable. Hand work to a teammate, another agent, or another machine with the full session context intact.
What Workthreads give you.
Captured sessions don't just sit in a folder. Workthreads turn them into the surfaces you'll actually reach for.
Workthread Board
A live radar of open workthreads across agents, repos, and people, with each workthread's derived state. Filter by project, agent, person, or state. Not a kanban you maintain.
Workthread Digest
An automated daily, weekly, or on-demand recap of your work and your open workthreads — delivered to your inbox so nothing stays half-finished in the dark.
Team Rollup
The same digest aggregated across every developer. The CEO's-eye view of everything that moved this week, and everything still open.
Handoff
Resume any workthread, or hand it to a teammate with full context. Built on cross-person Resume, so a thread that started on one machine continues on another.
Workthread → Linear
Promote a workthread to a Linear issue, or annotate an existing issue with the live thread and its intent. Populate your board from real work — don't replace it.
Signals
Proactive nudges, pushed to email or Slack: a workthread open too long, a “needs verification” left untouched, a blocked thread going idle.
And skills, so no one solves it twice.
Closing workthreads is half the story. The other half is making sure the next agent starts from what your team already figured out. SpecStory mines your captured histories into reusable skills — installed across every agent, owned by the team.
A shared skill library
Your team's skills in one versioned, source-available repository — the institutional memory that guides every agent, on every repo.
Skill generation at team scale
Turn captured histories into reusable skills automatically — 500 generations a month, across your team's repos.
Management & editor
Curate, refine, and version skills in a full editor, so the library stays sharp instead of sprawling.
Auto steering
Skills surface themselves in the flow, steering agents toward what your team already proved works — before anyone reinvents it.
Built on what you already capture.
- 1
Capture
The free, cross-provider CLI and extension records every agent session — Cursor, Codex, Claude Code, Copilot, Gemini — as clean markdown and raw JSON.
- 2
Distillation
Distillation detects where one thread ends and the next begins, deriving each workthread's state from the underlying sessions and commits.
- 3
Intent
The Intent plugin links commits to sessions for provenance — who's on this thread, and what it was meant to do.
- 4
Served live
Reach your workthreads three ways: the Workthread Board, MCP (ask an agent “what's open right now?”), and push — Digest and Signals.
- 5
Team, on Cloud
Cross-person Rollup and Handoff run on SpecStory Cloud. Self-host is available under the BSL.
Because capture spans every major agent, the same substrate powers both sides of Team — Workthreads reconstruct threads that hop tools, and Skills distills what worked into reusable knowledge. The one thing a ticket tracker structurally can't do, because it never sees inside the session.
Workthreads vs. traditional work tracking.
Issue trackers were built for work that humans plan and file by hand. Workthreads are built for work that agents do — derived, live, and reconstructed across tools. Here's how they line up.

Workthreads don't replace your tracker. They feed it.
Keep the board your team already runs on. Promote a workthread to a Linear issue or annotate a GitHub issue with the live thread and the intent behind it — so your tickets are populated from real work, not hand-typed after the fact. Workthreads are the bridge that carries a team from ticket-driven process to fully agentic work, without a rip-and-replace.
Workthread → Linear
Promote a workthread, or enrich an issue with its thread.
Workthread → GitHub Issues
Open issues from real, in-flight work.
Keep your whole team on the same thread.
Capture is free, forever. When you're ready to see across the whole team — every open thread, every handoff — Cloud Team is a conversation away.
Level up the whole team
Get your whole team shipping like your best engineer.
Workthreads and Skills compound what your team already knows. To level-jump together, bring them to the cohort SpecStory's founders teach — building a working agent harness from scratch, steering live runs, and verifying results before shipping. Move the whole team past prompt engineering into production-grade orchestration, at once — and enroll several seats for a team discount.
